Doctors should never bring their smartphones into the exam room, a senior health ministry official has said.
“I would advise doctors not to bring their mobile devices into the examination room,” Health Minister K. Jayant Sinha told reporters here.
He said the move would discourage the misuse of mobile phones by doctors.
The minister said that it was wrong for doctors to use their mobile phones to record their appointment for a new patient or even send it to a friend or family member for the treatment of the patient.
He also said that patients were more sensitive to pain and discomfort and would not want their pain recorded in a smartphone.
He suggested doctors not use their phones for phone calls, but instead use them for doctor visits and medical visits for the whole patient.
