By David Cheskin Carlton is looking to return to premiership contention in 2018, with coach John Longmire set to name a team that has won six finals and will play for the premiership in 2018.
The Blues are set to play in front of an enthusiastic crowd in the CBD on Saturday night, after being crowned the AFL’s best team in 2017-18 and securing an invitation to the finals.
Coach Longmire has said the team will play “one of the greatest finals teams in our history” with a new coach set to take over the reins from former captain Michael Firrito.
He said the Blues would “go toe-to-toe” with the Western Bulldogs in the finals, as well as the Sydney Swans, Melbourne and Richmond.
The premiership team will be led by star recruit and Carlton recruit Shaun Edwards, while midfielder Aaron Hall, midfielder Michael Walters and defender Matt White are also in the mix for the spot.
The AFL’s annual AFLWA Awards are being presented on Saturday, with the best player of the season award going to Carlton’s Michael Firriti.
